Measles is One Of The Most Contagious Diseases In The World and can be fatal.

During January and February 2109, the United States already had more measles cases than in the whole of 2017.

Measles cases stats in the USA: 2019: 159, 2017:180, 2016: 86

I am not going to argue the pro’s and con’s on vaccination, let these articles speak for themselves.

However, I want to discuss some holistic ways of easing the discomfort of the patient,  and sanitising and disinfecting the areas where they are recuperating.

Please note that aromatherapy oils cannot heal or prevent measles. It can however, help to ease the discomfort of the symptoms.

During the infectious stages of measles, the patient is especially vulnerable to bacterial diseases such as ear infections which can lead to deafness, bronchitis and pneumonia, encephalitis, croup etc.

Measles spreads through physical contact, coughing, sneezing and contact with the nasal and throat secretions of an infected person.  It can also spread through sharing crockery, linen, clothes, toys and cutlery with the infected person. Therefor it is of the utmost importance to keep the area that are in as well as their bedding/bed sanitised.

  • Keep the patient in bed and away from other people.
  • Use an aromatherapy blend of anti-viral oils : Bergamot, cinnamon bark, clary sage, clove, dill, anise, eucalyptus, geranium, juniper, lavender, lemongrass, melissa , neroil, rose, rosemary, tea tree and thyme. Use 10 drops of any combination of oils to 300ml water in a spray bottle.
  • Spray often in the house and the patients bedroom, bedding and as a general sanitiser for every ones’ hands that come into contact with the patient.
  • Wash all crockery, toys, cutlery, bath sponges, linen, clothes etc in hot water and iron clothes where possible.
  • Double-insulate all trash bags and dispose of immediately.
  • Use the following blend aromatherapy in the bath or sponge-down:  Mix equal parts German chamomile and lavender essential oils and use 5 drops thereof. It will sooth the spots.
  • Mix 5 drops of this blend to 1 bottle calamine lotion, shake well and use directly to the spots to calm and aid in healing these areas.
  • Wash your hand before and after touching the patient and spray your hands liberally with the anti-viral spray.

I hope this will help to make the recuperating time easier on all patients and care-givers.

Stay healthy!
